By taking cues from the history of the site to inform everything from development patterns to the smallest details incorporated into the benches, The Pier has been transformed into one of North Vancouver’s truly distinctive neighbourhoods.

The past has been made accessible through interpretive panels, public art, preserving existing site features and artifacts woven together with new interventions, all used to tell the story of the importance of shipbuilding in the development of the West Coast. With every line drawn we found ourselves asking the question, “What would the shipbuilder’s have done?” The outcome is a unique, culturally vibrant neighbourhood that makes history relevant in a modern context.
